As the Unit of Inquiry comes to a closure, students presented their understanding of the fact that “Living things play an important role in sustaining the environment”. Various modes such as poster making, herbarium or booklet, model making, experiments and collage making were used to present. The information was well organized and research information was summarized in the students’ own words.
End of the unit reflection:
1. What are the difficulties that you have encountered during the topic?
2. How did you overcome the difficulties encountered?
3. What are the 2 key takeaways for this topic?
2. How did you overcome the difficulties encountered?
3. What are the 2 key takeaways for this topic?
Students' reflections:
Tvisha VI-C: Learning and drawing the leaf structure was a bit difficult but I could overcome it by practicing again and again. The two takeaways are that I now understood the role of the plants and how important it is to maintain the carbon cycle.
Siddharth VI-D: During the topic I found it difficult to understand the types of flowers based on the carpel and stamen. I overcame it by revising my Science textbook at home. I learnt about the process of Pollination and I dug deeper in the causes and effects of Deforestation. I learnt about different ways of conservation of animal and plant habitats. I also learnt how to prevent the extinction of various plants and animals.
Kushaal VI-H: Basically, I couldn’t clearly understand the parts of a plant. I helped myself to learn it by studying from the textbook over and over again until I understood it. I learnt about Deforestation and how we can stop it. I learnt the importance of plants and animals in maintaining a proper ecosystem.
Saloni VI-A: Understanding the parts of the plant was not easy. But I searched for exercises on certain websites and practiced it again and again. Now I have clarity on it. This unit made me aware of the importance of conservation of plants and animals and that we should do our best to prevent their extinction.
Yamini Yepuri: The summative assessment, this time for Grade 6, was very exciting! Our task for the summative was: With the help of an experiment/ picture demonstration/ model demonstration, present your understanding of the fact that living things play an important role in sustaining the environment.
The central idea was living things play an important role in sustaining the environment. As the task explains, we had to present our understanding in the form of an experiment/ model or picture demonstration. We all had to work as a team; there were 4 people in each group. It was great fun to work and present the summative assessment as a group, we really enjoyed it! We were academically honest and had fresh ideas from each group.
