In relation to our POI topic, "Culture", our language
teachers, Ms. Mirka (Spanish) and Ms. Fa (French), gave us guest lectures on
their cultures. It was quite fascinating to learn about the cultures of
different places! Ms. Fa, who gave her presentation first, spoke about her home
town, Senegal, which is located in West Africa. The capital of Senegal is Dakar.
We gained a lot of knowledge: Population – 13.6 million; the religions, Islam
and Christianity; official language – French; festivals; sports; government; ethnic
groups and; currency.
Then, it was Ms. Mirka's turn to tell us about her country, Slovakia,
the capital being Bratislava, which is located in Europe. Slovakia is bordered
by Poland to the North, Hungary on the South, Ukraine on the East, and Czech
Republic on the West. Slovakia, also like most other European countries, has
Euro as its official currency. The native language of Slovakia is Slovak, which
is said to be harder than Mandarin (Chinese). Slovakia is famous for its
beautiful ice-caves which are -10 degrees Celsius inside! I learnt a lot
about Slovakia and Senegal and wish to continue learning more!
