Bus Stop Activity – Number Types and their properties

“BUS STOP ACTIVITY” was organized for the students of Grade VI. The activity was basically aimed at,
§  Understanding and Exploring the “Concept of Numbers”
§  Communicating and comparing the properties of various “Number Types”.
Tasks Involved In the Activity:

§  Students were grouped together into four different GROUPS.

§  Each of the GROUP was allotted one of the following “Number Type”
o   Whole Numbers
o   Natural Numbers
o   Decimals
o   Integers
§  Each GROUP was required to write down the various properties of the allotted “Number Type”, (with examples) on the chart paper.
§  Once all the GROUPS have completed this, the GROUPS were required to shift places with their adjacent GROUP.
§  The GROUPS were then asked to critically analyze and comment on the chart prepared by other GROUP.
Upon completion of the above TASK, the comments of each GROUP were assessed.
The activity was all about collaboration and information sharing. All the students participated actively throughout the various stages of this exercise. The task which involved commenting on the Chart Papers of other GROUP gave the students a sense of “Judging Authority”, and the students exhibited this with great enthusiasm and excitement.
