Grade VI - Field Trip to University Of Hyderabad

The students of Grade VI went for a field trip to the University of Hyderabad to see an excavation site in relation to the ongoing POI topic “Past Civilizations”. There they met Prof K P Rao, who is the present HOD of History in the School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad. Prof Rao is counted among one of the top ten archaeologists in India and has previously worked with Archaeological Survey of India and Department of Archaeology and Museums, Govt. of AP. After reaching the university the students took a small walk to the excavation site where they were guided by the Prof himself. He showed them the sites, explained the significance and importance of the site and showed them an in situ museum (an excavation, preserved at the site itself). The students had plenty of questions to ask and Prof Rao answered each of them patiently. After that he took the students to the museum in the Department of History where he has kept on display all the tools and materials recovered from the excavation site. The site, which was excavated by the Professor himself is about 3000 to 5000 years old and is also the first site of settlement in Hyderabad, which means it was the exact site from where civilization in Hyderabad began. The students got to see and touch ancient tools that were as old as 1 lakh years. It was a great learning experience for the students who got an opportunity to meet such a renowned personality and visit such an important ancient historical site.
