Junior
School Library took part in celebrating World Read Aloud Day on 06th
March 2013 initiated by LitWorld. World
Read Aloud Day is an awareness day advocating for literacy as a right that
belongs to all people, celebrated around the world. There are around 793
million people in this world who can’t read. That’s why Read Aloud Day exists
to help people to read and write. WRAD is about Taking action to show the world
that the right to read and write belongs to all people of all ages.
“World Read Aloud Day is about
taking action to show the world that the right to read and write belongs to all
people. World Read Aloud Day motivates children, teens, and adults worldwide to
celebrate the power of words, especially those words that are shared from one
person to another, and creates a community of readers advocating for every
child’s right to a safe education and access to books and
technology.” ~from the LitWorld website
At
Oakridge, children took part in this by reading for their maids and drivers and
the people who can’t read and write and shared the joy of reading. By reading to others in the school library
and at home Oakridgers showed the world that we support others’ future; that
they have the right to read and write and to share their words to change the
world.
