“Fortunate are those who have learned that the best way to get is to first give through useful SERVICE”

Our students in “Oakridge International School”, Newton Campus are certainly fortunate as they believe in the above thought and leave no stone unturned in bringing it into action. Service is the most important part of CAS (Community Action Service) here in Oakridge. This year, we are committed to the cause of providing care and support to the Visually Impaired. Therefore, on Saturday, November 05, 2011, the staff and students of Grade 4, 5 and 6 invited a 10 member orchestra of visually impaired people from the “Faith Foundation”. Our aim was to provide these special people a platform to showcase their immense talent and enable them to feel their rightful place in society.

The band performed on some really soulful and melodious Hindi songs. They started with our national song “Vande Mataram” followed by “Ae mere watan ke logon” setting a perfect patriotic atmosphere in the spacious multi-purpose hall of the school. The mood was quickly changed when they sang a couple of melodious numbers from the popular genre of music. The children too were pretty excited to have the band in their midst. They were amazed by the sheer talent on show. The kind of co-ordination and discipline exhibited by them was exemplary for all. The care and concern which the team members showed for each-other melted the hearts of everyone present.

The children collected a small amount of Rs. 20,000 as a mark of gratitude towards these extraordinary people. Our principal, Mr. Rohit Sen Bajaj handed over this amount to Mr. Ramu from “Faith Foundation” .The entire experience was a revelation for all of us that people with certain disabilities are no less than the rest. In fact, God has given them balance by blessing them with many other such talents which an ordinary man can only think of. It has further strengthened our resolve to give back to society what we have received from it.
