Guest Lecture – Time Management

Today, we had Mr. SudhirMarrisetti come to our class and give us a valuable guest lecture on Time Management. He spoke about how we are taught everything in school apart from the importance of time and to manage our time is the most important thing as it’s the only way to succeed. He showed us that we have to be prepared, no matter what situation we are in. He discussed our daily routines and how to improve and make changes in it. We discussed with him how to spend our time doing things on a regular school day and then on a weekend or during holidays. He told about the right balancing of things we do during a day. In a manner that would help us pull up our grades. We learnt techniques to balance out our time and how we should reflect on how much time we spend on doing things. We learnt how to avoid distractions in between our schedule as they lead to time leaks. We realized spending 5 extra minutes here and there lazing around, at the end of the day we lose about an hour to two that way. Henceforth, we begin to lose out on time without realizing it. He showed us that more work does not result in better grades. Being relaxed, not getting stressed out and fulfilling our sleep helps us are more attentive and active henceforth resulting in better grades. He discussed the importance of revision and studying ahead of time, so that we are a little aware of the topic that is going to be started in school. This techniques helps us already we on track, understand better what the teacher is trying to say and also helps us ask questions and grasp the topic better. We had an interactive session about how anything new should be practiced and tried at least 4-5 times. This should be done during the revision period. As, not everything our teacher explains is understood on the first time of her explaining. We end up retaining only 40% of what we are taught in school. A first revision after we get home helps us retain 80% of what is learnt. The rest 20% should be gone through one week after the chapter is taught. We came to the conclusion that we need at least 3 hours of study time every-day.

  •        Homework,
  •       Revision
  •      Preparation.

We learnt how to figure out the time span we have to do the things we need to. Figure out our break times, study time, supper time, personal time etc. This helps us figure out the time we are left with to study. Which helps us calculate if we need more, less or how to go about finishing our chapters. We realized it was necessary to plan ahead. To leave out some excess time that travelling, commuting or other time consuming things in between our daily activities would take us. So that we don’t run out of schedule and are unable to follow our time frame. We learnt that we should plan and calculate the number of things we need to finish and how long each work would take, to get a total estimate of the time we need for a particular subject. And then if we don’t have enough time for the particular subject then we cut out on a few particular tasks that aren’t as important and fit it into the time frame you have planned for a particular subject. Or else, we plan to shift our time from out other subjects to fit in enough time to finish the homework we have for one subject. We all were very enlightened by this way of planning and hope to follow it to learn better and become better students on a whole.
