Parent Talk

A Parent Talk was conducted for IXB by Subhashini Rajagopalan, parent of Ahalya Rajagopalan on Smart Math.
The  purpose of the talk was to impress on the children that mathematics is not just about numbers. It is about our ability to see a problem in many different ways. It is about logical thinking, reasoning, out of the box thinking and exercising the brain. The second part of the talk focused on Algebra. Algebra is not an abstract concept found only in math textbooks but it is everyday life.
Subhashini also apprised  the students of a website www.combinationlock.com which has interesting puzzles to find lock codes based on clues which can be solved with Algebra and reasoning.
Cool calendar tricks that can be explained with Algebra.
(Sum of the numbers in a complete row = 7 x middle number
Sum of the numbers in a complete 3x3 grid = 9 x middle number)
Students were engrossed in solving the various activities and asking pertinent questions. On the whole it was a very interesting session.
