Energy can neither be created nor
destroyed. It can only be converted from one form to another. Some of the
energy sources are getting depleted very soon. Most of the non-renewable
sources of energy are causing pollution too.
So, to understand the role and
responsibility of every individual in conserving energy sources, today children
of grades IV, Sections A to J had a Guest Lecture on Green Buildings in
connection with their Unit of Inquiry “Energy” by Mrs. Samhita, an architect
who designs green buildings. In todays terminology, Green refers to doing
things in an eco-friendly manner or with the environment as a prime concern.
She explained the main components of a green building i.e. Site, Water, Energy,
Materials, Air and Quality.
Children were
educated on how the materials used in construction play a major role in the
conservation of energy.
Reflections
on the Guest Lecture:
I learnt a few things about green
buildings: these are eco-friendly and energy efficient. Also, indoor air quality,
thermal comfort, low VOC materials, solar panels, and fresh air should be
provided for green buildings. We should continuously monitor the carbon dioxide
emission to check the amount of pollution.
Samhita Ma’m mentioned another important thing that cars should be parked
inside the building to reduce the heat absorption and consequently lower the consumption
of AC in the vehicle.
My home survey shows that “Green Building” is a unique idea to
conserve energy because a green building consumes less energy than a non-green
building.
