A GERMAN JOURNALIST WRITING FOR A NEWSPAPER
THE REFLECTIONS OF WORLD WAR I’
The
history students of grade 9th IGCSE were given the task of making a newspaper
as an assignment. But not just any newspaper, like any interesting project,
it had a twist.
The task was to make a newspaper as a neutral reporter from 1919, after
the signing of the treaty of Versailles, a monumental document
that officially ended the First World War.
Although, the job seemed simple enough at first, it turned out to be anything but.
With a week’s deadline to meet, we were hard pressed to do our best in the time
we had available. In my opinion, the task was befitting for students of 9th
grade.
The hardest part was the research was
that we had to verify our facts and cite all our sources. However, it was
nothing that we shouldn't be used to.
The best part was the designing of the paper, striving to make an
authentic-looking paper, worthy of praise and good grades.
Writing the articles was also rather difficult as the task was to make
the paper seem as realistic as possible. This was difficult as we were not
allowed to use terms such as 'Fist world war'; in 1919, it was called 'the
great war', a war greater than any war fought by mankind at the time.
All in all, it was not only educational, but a fun and challenging task
that we enjoyed immensely.
