Going to an orphanage was a great
experience but more than that it was incredibly humbling. Every day we take
things for granted, but meeting those children really changed my mind-set. When
we walked into the rooms, they were so happy to see us. They just wanted to be
loved, like any other human being. I am glad I could give them that. In the
brief hour that we were there, we interacted with the kids, talking and passing
snacks around. The oldest children were 8 years old, while there were also many
new born babies. Despite being abandoned, their cheerful spirit inspired me and
made me realize how truly fortunate I am. I would definitely like to go again.

The very mention of a CAS activity
excites me. We usually get to meet children, and this time it was no different.
On the 9th of
October, my class teacher announced that there would be a CAS activity, and
that in this one we would be visiting an orphanage. We would get to interact and
play with the underprivileged children, giving them comfort amidst the absence
of parents, even if it only was for a little while.
One bus journey and many head
counts later, we finally arrived at the place. Even though the outside of the
buildings looked cracked and dirty, the inside was spotless. The entire
orphanage was well-kept, and our class couldn’t wait to meet the little kids. When we spread out and entered the
rooms, an adorable sight met our eyes. Dozens of little children were sprawled
out on the floor, smiling, waving, and chattering. We immediately fell to the
floor beside them and began to play and interact.
I
will never forget their smiling faces. To me, they’re a constant reminder of a
part of the bravery of humanity, the part that lies with children.

The thought of going out of school
was good. At first I thought we would just go to school but my teacher told me
we were going to an orphanage. The day I was going to go to an orphanage I was
very excited I went and bought something’s for the kids. The situation touched
my heart. I felt so good when I spent the part of the day with the kids. When
all the kids surrounded me and I played with them I could feel the tears in my
eyes. I’d like to thank my teachers for teaching us the meaning of life and
value of life through this way. I’d surely go there again.

The first thing I thought of when
my teacher informed us that we were going to an orphanage for CAS was that it
was going to be fun. I had no idea it was going to be emotional too… I had
never groaned at the thought of CAS, I had always quite enjoyed meeting new
people and playing with children. So I was quite excited about going to an
orphanage. The children in the Orphanage were quite small but very interactive
for their age. I was actually surprised when I met them. I was, in fact, shy to
meet and play with them. I would definitely come back to the orphanage to
spend more time with the children and I’m pretty sure I would spend my birthday
with the children. It was an amazing experience.

‘A trip to knowledge is always one
to remember’. This was the only thought that struck me after visiting the
orphanage. I never realized how fortunate I am and how much luck plays a role
in shaping our lives. I went there with all kinds of things in mind. I did not
know what to give them, how to talk to them or what made them happy. But, I
soon found out all they really needed was love and friends. I was welcomed with
a warm hug from a 2 year old. After that, all my uncertainty vanished. I talked
to them and played with them. Their confident smiles touched and inspired me. I
will always remember this day, not only because they were a delight to be with
but also because I was extremely inspired by them. I brought back a sense of
responsibility and gratefulness for everything I have.
