Guest Lecture for Grade 5: Rights and Duties – What are They?

Today there was yet another time for the 5th graders to understand more about the two main important topics of the Unit “Government”. We had a Guest Lecture for the kids on the topics of Fundamental Rights and Fundamental Duties.

These 2 areas were touched by the class teachers too in their previous classes too. However, a guest lecture will always add more depth to that particular topic. It is important for each of us to know our rights and duties. It leads to the betterment of self and also of the community that we live in and that is precisely why importance is given to these two topics.

Here, we had one of our own teachers Mr Pratik Siddharth Thapa who happens to have a social and political background who fitted perfectly to give a presentation on the topics. It was an added advantage for the kids as they could easily ask him questions for they feel comfortable with a person they know. Right after the morning assembly is when it started at 9 am and lasted for about 1 hour but in that 1 hour there was so much of productive discussion and interaction that took place. Presentation was rather a short one and the question and answer round was the longer one.

Students had many doubts about our rights and responsibilities and they ensured that their doubts are cleared once and for all. The interaction was also very lively as the Guest speaker kept entertaining the audience with funny and witty statements and examples. This strategy kept the kids awake and before they knew it they had already known a lot about the topics for the hour. It was a fun and knowledgeable way to start the day and the kids simply enjoyed it.
