GANDHI JAYANTI

2nd October is the Birthday of our own “Bapu”, Father of the Nation- Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.  We the students had put up a small programme to celebrate this occasion.

A special assembly was held on October 1. It started with the prayer “Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram” sung by the school choir. It was a favourite of Mahatma Gandhi and was also sung on the 390 kilometre long Dandi March in 1930.

A video was prepared by students about the teachings and ideologies of Gandhi. It gave some insight into Mahatma Gandhi’s personality -he was man full of wit and wisdom, a fact well-known, but he had a humorous and sarcastic side to him as well.

The tribute continued throughout the day with an exhibition prepared by the students of Grade X (CBSE) in the Atrium. A timeline of Gandhi’s life and important events relating to India’s Independence was the centrepiece of the display.

The exhibition also featured information on various movements initiated by Gandhi, including the Satyagraha movements in Ahmedabad, Champaran & Kheda, the Khilafat, Non-Cooperation Movements, Dandi March and Quit India. There were student volunteers who explained the others about Gandhiji’s contribution in the Indian National Movement.
