An icebreaker
camp was organized for the IBDP students by Erudite adventure at Mount Opera. Whether
it is joining a new school or shifting to a new curriculum, the beginning of
every journey we undertake is always marked with a bit of uncertainty and
apprehension. “Icebreakers” was an extraordinary weekend which not only eased
these concerns but created strong bonds of friendships that will remain with the
students for a long time.
Teamwork was the
base for every activity the students undertook, and this brought all of them
closer to each other. There was always a feeling of support and encouragement
surrounding them which helped them to overcome every challenge they faced.
Those moments of success – standing together at the summit of a hill after a
long struggle to the top, watching everyone swallow their fear and grapple down
a cliff (rappelling), or working together to score a point in monster
volleyball – filled them with pride for the team. Relationships were budding
everywhere, with each other, with seniors, and even with the teachers
This weekend did
much more than just “break the ice”; it created a pool of togetherness. At the
end of this weekend the students saw themselves not only as part of one group
or one grade, but as part of the Oakridge family.
The weather which
was not congenial till the day before the camp suddenly turned in our favor.
When we were about to board the buses there was a spell of rain that reminded
us of the song ‘The showers of blessing’…and it was a blessing indeed.
