Carnatic Music Terms
  • Ārōhanam

Ārōhanam of arāgam is the ascending scale of the rāgam. It describes the rules for singing ascending notes of arāgam, including the swarams to use and swaram patterns that form the rāgam.
  • Avarōhanam

Avarōhanam of arāgam is the descending scale of the rāgam. It describes the rules for singing descending notes of arāgam.

Western Music Terms
  • Animato

[ah-nee-mah-toh] (Italian) "Animated." Tempo indication, generally modifying an initial tempo. For example, piu animato means "more animated than before."
  • Antiphonal

Music performed by an ensemble divided into two or more distinct groups which perform in alternation and together.
