The 1st
of October saw the final round of the health
quiz, hosted by Dr. Nazia Khan. The inter class event was an entertaining
and illuminating way to end the day.
The previous day,
three classes from ninth grade and three from tenth were selected through a
rapid-fire questionnaire – each section from both grades was represented by
five members of a team. The teams attempted to answer as many questions as they
could in a minute, and faced off in the final quiz which took place the next
day.
The first round consisted of multiple-choice questions. A valid answer fetched 10 marks, and if unanswered, the question would pass to the audience. Team A (representing class 10 H) won the fast-paced and very interesting round with 20 points.
Following was a
visual challenge. The questions consisted of one or more pictures, and the
contestants attempted to identify what was being shown. I learned much during
this round, and it was more difficult than its predecessor as the contestants
had more time to think.
Finally came the
final round, the rapid-fire, which was similar to the selections. In this, each
team, one by one, had a go at attempting to answer as many of 15 oral questions
within only one minute – Team A won the round with 11 correct answers, an
impressive number of which were answered by Monish Yarlagadda. The winners of
the quiz overall were, again, Team A (consisting of Neel M., Nikhil P., Abhiram
R., Monish and myself).
All in all, it was
a very interesting hour, and I feel that more should participate in these types
of quizzes – some of the time it’s a matter of racking your brains, and some of
the time it’s just about how fast you can answer. But at its core, it is a fun
way to learn.
