A Tribute to Pt. Ravi Shanker, The Maestro

Ravi Shankar often referred to by the title Pandit, was an Indian musician and composer who played the sitar, a plucked string instrument. He has been described as the best-known contemporary Indian musician. Born in Varanasi, Pandit Ravi Shankar “was a true citizen of the world.” As Hundreds pay tributes to legendary sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar at a public memorial service in California, we at Oakridge International School pay tributes to the legendary musician and composer, who helped introduce the sitar to the West through his collaboration with The Beatles.
Inspiring George Harrison to learn the sitar and the British band to record songs like 'Norwegian Wood' (1965) and 'Within You, Without You' (1967), Pt.Ravi Shanker is credited with popularizing Indian music through his work.
