Orchestra by the Visually Challenged

Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) is a mandatory core component of our school. We, at Oakridge, believe that learning through experience is very important and we believe in taking actions by doing service to others.
In the words of a Helen Keller I have always thought it would be a blessing if each person could be blind and deaf for a few days. Darkness would make him appreciate sight; silence would teach him the joys of sound.
On 27 December, 2012, the members of Vishwadrukh Foundation for the Visually Challenged were invited to present a musical show at our Newton campus. The members sang a number of soul stirring songs accompanied by music and also danced to the tunes of popular music.
The audience was awestruck with the coordination and synchronization of the dancers. They proved that disability should not be taken as a drawback in one’s life. Rather, it should give us courage to move forward with a stronger zeal. The members of the foundation proved that they can fly high on their wings of courage and imagination. After all, the sky has no limits.
The memories of the afternoon will linger long in our minds. It brought near to us the hope of Christmas as well as made us realize how precious to us the Gift of God really is. As a part of CAS our beloved Headmistress, Ms. Hema sanjay, handed the amount collected by students of Grade 6 during the PYP exhibition 2012.

Students Reflections

"The orchestra was amazing. Though the people were blind, they had immense qualities. The best part was not the dance or music. It was their performance and the way they mastered their art. The show was really worth watching. We showed the attitude of empathy."- Siddharth Diwan

"The Orchestra was really good. They were outstanding. I was amazed to see a visually challenged person who could play 10 different instruments. He was a good singer as well. We should learn from them a lot. “Disability cannot win against will power.”- Esha Tibrewala

"The orchestra was very good. They sang songs and danced. The dance was too good. More so, because they could not see. I was amazed to hear that they won Second place in all India dance competition for the blind."-  Sanskriti Chandak
