GROUP ACTIVITY – SUBTRACTION OF INTEGERS

Recently, we had an activity in our math class based on the subtraction of integers. The activity was a group activity.
The teacher divided the children into groups. A tray was put on the front table which consisted of papers with two colours - blue and yellow. The teacher told us that blue represents one positive integer and the yellow represents one negative integer.
One child from each team had to blindly pick up pieces of colour paper with only two fingers. After we picked mixed pieces of papers, we had to count the number of blues and number of yellows.
Our group picked 6 blues and 4 yellows. Therefore, we had to subtract the number four from six. Post this; we were left with two blues. Hence, we got two points as our score… That was how the game went.
We found the activity quite innovative and interesting… it lifted our team spirit as well!
