The students of grade 11 in CAS
activities- the class was split into two groups, one who worked on decorating
the classroom soft boards and the other who cleaned the school's indoor fish
pond.
Cleaning the fish pond, as an activity,
was relatively new to all of the students. We soon found out that it required a
meticulous approach and lots of teamwork. The first thing we did was catch and
remove the turtles and fish from the pond and place them in a separate tank for
the time being, after which some of the students got into the water and began
removing the large rocks that covered the floor of the pond. The students set
up a makeshift assembly line that would ensure that each individual rock was
scrubbed of dirt and algal growth before being returned to the pond. Using mops
and scrubbers, we scraped the walls of the pond clean before returning the
clean rocks to the pond.
A good environment to thrive in is
important for all living beings and it was really great to be able to help the
school out, especially when we learned a few new skills in the process. As a
result of our perseverance and teamwork, the fish have a more hygienic home to
thrive in.
