Guest Lecture for IX & X

Guest Profile: The guest, Mr. Sugumar has more than 25 years of experience in the IT and communications industry. He has been consulting many companies including British Telecom in the areas of technology and business. He has graduated from IIT (Madras) and IIM ( Ahmedabad).

On Monday 26th August, Mr. Sugumar. K came to Oakridge to brief the 9th&10th Grade (CIE) students about the Indian Telecom Industry. We all assembled in the MPH and heard from him. He started with giving us an overview about the Industry. We got to know about many things like India is the 2nd largest in the telecom industry and soon we might even take over China! Interesting things were introduced to us like the evolution of the mobile standards etc. We became aware about the industry revenues as well as about the debts and the growth of the Indian Telecom Industry. In the second half of our interaction we understood about the challenges faced by the industry and discussed the market shares of internet and telecom. Overall this seminar was enlightening for all of us. The interaction with Sir gave us a chance to learn Economics/ Business Studies outside a classroom and be more aware about Telecom Industry. This guest lecture, according to my opinion, could have been more effective and useful if the entire grade 10   i.e., even those students who did not opt for the two subjects had the opportunity to attend. Indeed, the experience was very educative and interesting.
Conclusion: At the end of the lecture, he gave the students time for questioning and students participated well in the session. The students thanked the guest for enlightening them with the practical exposure of the real world.
They presented a large "THANK YOU" card prepared by a few of the Art students and signed by all the students.
