Treasure Fest, a time when various students from
numerous schools all over the city come to Oakridge to compete, has finally
come. Fuelled by Oakridge International
School’s motto, Learning the Treasure
Within, Treasure fest allows a multitude of pupils to express themselves
and strive for the best in their areas of interest. With this city-wide
competition offering contests from anything between flower decorating to
basketball tournaments, it attracts all sorts of audiences. However, there is
much more to Treasure fest than just sheer entertainment.
Treasure fest also has a unique intention that
makes it all the more worthwhile. During Treasure fest, as an initiative commenced
by the CAS team, various food stalls are put up. These stalls sell a plethora
of foods, appealing to large, varied crowds. The items being sold are marked up
from their original price so as to ensure that the extra profits are retained
by the CAS team in order to run our Design for Change project, which is a
community project to be undertaken by the learners of our school in order to
give back to the public and make a difference.
The stalls were all set up and ready to go.
However, as a member of the CAS team, I personally was quite nervous about the
success of this project. Although the stalls are successful every year, we were
still a bit nervous because we had done some things differently this year in
order to ensure greater productivity. We were quite anxious about the reception
it would have this year. However, as soon as the stalls opened, it was a true
treat for the eyes to see that whole student population swarmed like an army of
bees to the stalls. Being in charge of the stalls, we went to the different
stalls to see how they were operating. It was great to see that all the
customers left with smiles and that because of the great service, they kept
coming back. We are pleased to declare the success of such an initiative. We
are extremely content that people have realized our intention to change the
world and are willing to help change it with us – Sailesh Yarlagadda
