Spoorthi

Spoorthi is an IB initiative that has been taking place for years in Oakridge Newton campus now. On, 25th August, 2013 Oakridgers conducted another session wherein 30 children of the Campus’ sub staff were present. This is a very enriching experience for the students of Oakridge as they get to better help improving the quality of education that the Spoorthi Students receive. They all are from various school s but on 2nd Saturdays and 4th Sundays they are nothing but Oakridgers.
They are taught Math, English, Science and Computers along with extra – curricular activities such as Dance and Sports. Both the mentors and mentees shared a good rapport with one another. The teaching actually happened both ways as even they were teaching us Telugu. In order to communicate efficiently, we use the regional languages, since our Telugu is weak in comparison to their Telugu, they help by correcting our grammar and pronunciation.
Today, the students learned English and Computers mainly. Seeing their enthusiasm for learning and exploring new aspects of learning the mentors were boosted to help them in their learning process even more. They were in general asked to make either power points or use Microsoft word to write about themselves and revisit their past. The creativity of these children was seen to its highest limits. Their Power Points were so original and imaginative that they inspired me to expand my horizons too.
All in all the purpose of the day was fulfilled with great passion and commitment from both sides. The outcome was great as everybody carried experiences that inspired them to learn more do more and come back again with equal eagerness (if it is possible) tour next session.
