As part of the Independence Day celebrations, the CIE grade 9 and 10 participated in the Quiz competition organized at Oakridge International School, Newton campus.

PHASE 1:
Students of grade 9 and 10 (IGCSE) were given a written test on the topic “struggle for independence” for 10 marks to answer in small groups.

Second round of Quiz was conducted for the students who qualified phase 1 on the same day, i.e. 12th August 2013 in the seventh period.

PHASE 3:
The Finals was conducted on 13th August 2013 in the 9th and 10th periods. It was a great event. There were 8 teams in the finals (6 teams from the CBSE segment and 2 teams from CIE segment). There were questioning rounds, visual rounds (participant’s recognising the freedom fighter from the slide shown), and rapid- fire round and extempore round (students pick the name of a freedom fighter from the lot and give a speech for 2 minutes).
The CIE is indeed proud to announce that the grade 10(IGCSE) one of the eight teams secured the second place.
The event concluded by a Closing speech by Ms. Hema Chennupaty, VP (CBSE Segment, Senior School).

Names of students of IGCSE grade 10 who secured the second place:
  • Viraj Reddy
  • Animesh Peddireddi
  • Avanish  Peddireddi
When Animesh, Avaanish, and Viraj first heard about “The Battle of the Brains” they were a little sceptical. They didn’t believe that they could even get passed the first round of the quiz, let alone going all the way to the exciting finals.

They were a little scared but they were confident that they could soar through the first quiz with flying colours. “The first test was easy, but we were still nervous. This is something we really wanted as we’ve always been proud of our country”, said Animesh.  They were surprised to pass through the first round and immediately began studying for the second one. The second round consisted of oral questions and was slightly more challenging then the first round.  It started off well but things began to spiral out of control as the questions became more difficult. However the team worked together and pulled through to get into the finals.

When the final round came around, the team was terrified. “We were shaking through the day leading up to the final round”, stated Avanish. The finals consisted of four rounds, and each of them presented their own unique challenges. The first round consisted of oral questions however unlike the 2nd round questions would be passed on to the next team, allowing the next team to steal the question. The other rounds were passed with ease. However the final round was unexpected and difficult. Contestant had to give a short speech on an important member of the Indian independent movement. The brave team received Jawaharlal Nehru (the first prime minister of India). Though they were scared Viraj finally went up and conquered the difficult speech. “I was terrified, but after the amazing support my friends lent me I felt invincible”, said Viraj. The team finally secured the 2nd place. After some daunting questions this team overcame their fear and made 10th CIE proud.
