CAS Activity Refelections

  • “On 1st August we visited a school named Joyland school .The main purpose of our trip was to give some knowledge to the children who were less fortunate than us. Also we had to learn to help others who are underprivileged to us. We arrived at the school prepared to teach the kids. I had chosen math as my topic because I felt that I could help the most in maths. I had a series of activities to entertain and teach them. I felt that the kids I taught were very smart and had the capability to study well. The response of the students was very good I saw that every child was ready to learn and study. I felt the outcome was that the children learned more in maths like algebra and exponents .I myself learned a lot as it was my first time teaching. Next time I plan to teach them in a much more interactive way and I want to give them more knowledge. I plan to teach them new topics that will be difficult for them. This trip was a very good learning experience for me I learned that there are people that don’t enjoy the luxuries that we do and that we need to help them in every possible way such as charities, fund raisers, we should also try and teach them to learn new things” - HARSHIT (grade VIII)
  • “ We went to Joy land School on 1st august, 2013 for our CAS activity. I was very excited and was looking forward to meeting the students and staff of the school.  I was in the story telling group in which we in a group of four including Tabish, Thanmayee, Manan and I had planned to read little kids' stories. We were assigned first graders; they were quite excited and were very welcoming. We read them stories and made them explain what they understood. Thanmayee and I translated a few words into Hindi and Telugu. I think the activities that we did with them helped them to quite an extent as the stories we read were about cleanliness, Respecting adults, caring and sharing. These are topics that will help them in their day to day lives. Also we made the kids make their own stories which helped them increase their imagination skills. I think we were quite successful in helping them as they has told us that they had a lot of fun and requested us to come back. Even though we did have some difficulties to interact with them as they were very shy and were not confident in using the English language. For the next time I will make sure that I will make the activities more interesting as they looked a little bored after some time. I have learned a lot from this experience. I have learnt to value the facilities provided to us. Even though they have barely anything of which we have they are still happy and content. By this activity we came to know how the unprivileged people live and their way of living. I am sure that I would want to do CAS activities more often as I enjoyed teaching those kids who were so enthusiastic and open to ideas. This was a once in a life time experience which I will never forget. I would like to thank the school who trusted us and handed over the responsibility of their children. I am glad I was lucky enough to experience this activity” - Divya Agarwal

  • I was really excited to take part for the English team as an initiative and work with them. I planned to do a lot of things with my group which included Priyanka, Raashi and me. I had a keen interest in teaching them some basic grammar. We planned to give away my knowledge about a few parts of speech, writing skills etc. I prepared for some fun activities to entertain them and teach them at the same time. I also planned to give away some stationary that would be necessary. I was successful with all that I had planned.I personally feel that we learnt lots of things. Teaching them was not for the sake of fun. I learnt that these unprivileged children, young or grown up, have to strive to learn that we privileged children grow with, at school/home with develop and polish infrastructures/facilities. I think I did pretty well, looking at those children having fun made me feel happy. I did have some difficulty in making a few children understand what I wanted to say, although my teammates helped me out with that, I wished I could make them understand what I wanted to say. I think we should learn that what we have today is much more than we deserve and we should be able to show that we deserve it by working harder bit by bit.I really enjoyed teaching them  and looking at them taking those little gifts that we gave as a dream come true, or rather a great achievement. I would also like to thank Narinder sir and the school who gave us this great opportunity to teach and learn something new from this great experience” - Akansha Jain
